Homework for Year 1 is reading at least 3 times per week (ideally a little every night). We are having a big push on phonics in Year 1 & 2 so your child may also come home with a flashcards folder containing sounds to practise. Additionally, they may have a list of target sounds in their reading diary. Please try to revise these as much as possible to assist your child with their learning.

Reading:
At Collingwood, we encourage children to read at least 3 times per week (ideally a little every night). We use a reading race incentive to encourage children to read at home. This involves children reading at home and once they reach 40 reads, they earn a golden coin that they can spend at our reading book vending machine.
Teachers carefully pick every child's reading books depending on their reading level. Books will be changed at teachers' discretion once they feel the child is confident and ready to move on.
PE- Wednesday and Friday
Spellings - Given out on a Monday. Spelling Test Fridays
Reading books - Changed at teacher's discretion after the child has read three times (where appropriate) for fluency.
