At the heart of our curriculum is our school ethos which states that we want all children in Collingwood Primary School to 'find something that they are good at.' We will do our very best to ensure the children have the opportunities and support to do so, within our nurturing environment.

Our curriculum is underpinned by our Curriculum Drivers which staff ensure are incorporated into the children's educational experiences.

  • Explore future possibilities using their talents
  • Broaden their horizons and look to their future
  • See themselves as an important member of their community
  • Show independence of thought and action, making the right decisions for themselves
  • Through drama, learn to express themselves positively and with confidence

As part of our curriculum we will cover shorter themes such as: Anti-bullying, British Values, Big Me - the Future, Harvest Festival, Christmas, Cooking, Easter, E-Safety, World Book Day and Science, Technology,Engineering and Maths (STEM).

Please look at our Curriculum Overview which shows you the different topics each year group will cover each term.

Foundation Stage (Nursery and Reception)

There is an early years unit attached to the school with three teachers and two Nursery Nurses.  Children must be 3 years old before they can be admitted, and remain in this until they are ready to move into a Year 1 class.
The sessions in the Nursery Class are 8.15am to 11.25am (with a breakfast club option) and 12.15pm to 3.15pm. Nursery children can attend for ½ days only (see extended schools for full time nursery) and parents may choose (depending on the waiting list) whether they would prefer the morning or the afternoon session. Reception school days run like the rest of the school - 8.55am until 3.15pm and there is also a Breakfast Club option for our Reception children.
