    Welcome to our Governors’ section.

Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.

The governors, with the headteacher and school senior leadership team, set the strategy and manage budgets and appointments to school, alongside monitoring policies and setting targets. Governors come from all walks of life: parents, staff, local authority appointments and co-opted community governors.

Full governors’ meetings take place once a term, and sub-committees in Curriculum & Premises and Resources take place termly or ,if needed, more often than that. Guests are invited to contribute to meetings on occasion.

Governors are linked to a curriculum area and are invited to meet with allocated subject leaders to share ideas about the curriculum. Governors undertake visits to school and are allocated tasks relating to their areas of responsibility. They provide support and challenge for the school and are responsible for headteacher's performance management and for dealing with any formal complaints through the complaints procedure which is available on this website.

Collingwood Governors commission North Tyneside Governors Services to clerk all meetings and to provide advice whilst monitoring the legal framework for all proceedings.

A Chair and Deputy Chair of governors are elected without prejudice, following North Tyneside recommended procedures.

When there are parent or teacher vacancies on the Board of Governors, these are advertised and positions are filled without prejudice, following North Tyneside recommended procedures. Other governors may be co-opted through the Local Authority or by recommendation from an existing governor. Decisions are reached following North Tyneside recommended procedures and all posts are held for 4 year periods.
