  • Careers

At Collingwood, we recognise that children start forming aspirations as early as three or four, noticing the jobs adults do. Introducing careers at a young age helps our children to understand the value of their learning, promotes inclusivity, and shows that success is for everyone.

Our curriculum helps our children to link their learning to the real world, inspiring children to dream big, discover their talents, and explore future possibilities.  Through exploration and engaging activities, we help our children develop key skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and creativity. We nurture their confidence, helping them recognise their strengths and aspire to make a difference.

At Collingwood, we challenge stereotypes through our career work and ensure that a range of female and male jobs are portrayed.

    We do this through:

    • STEM week
    • Visits from a range of companies and industries
    • Linking careers to our everyday lessons
    • Exploring the qualities needed to pursue a career
    • Career assemblies and workshops

During the Summer term, our Year 6 children are invited to an inspirational day of learning at Tyne Met College. There, they are able to have a hands-on experience of the different types of trade they could go into after finishing school. The children experience brick laying, engineering, electrician and plumbing work. It is inspirational to see the variety of important careers our children could have in the future!
