At Collingwood, we are committed to nurturing ambition and curiosity in every child. Our careers-focused curriculum ensures that pupils are inspired to dream big, discover their talents, and explore the exciting possibilities the future holds.
From the Early Years, introducing children to the concept of careers helps them connect their learning to real-world opportunities. We aim to broaden their horizons by enabling them to explore a variety of roles and understand that they can aspire to achieve great things. Through engaging activities, we nurture essential skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and creativity, which form the foundation for their future success. We strive to build their self-belief by helping them discover their unique strengths and how they can use these to make a meaningful difference in the world.
By embedding careers into the curriculum, we empower pupils to dream without limits, enabling them to discover a wide range of career options and the paths to achieving them. Linking subjects to real-world roles helps pupils recognise the value of their learning and gain a clearer understanding of its purpose. We also celebrate diversity by showcasing people from all backgrounds succeeding in various roles, fostering inclusivity and inspiring ambition.
We believe that parents and the wider community play an important role in shaping children’s aspirations. By working together, we create enriching experiences that inspire every child to reach their full potential. Parents are encouraged to share their own career stories and get involved in school events, further enhancing our pupils’ learning.
Our careers-focused approach helps all of our children to dream, explore, and grow. At Collingwood, we prepare our pupils not just for their next stage of education but for a future full of possibilities, giving them the skills, knowledge, and confidence to thrive in a changing world.
During the Summer term, our Year 6 children are invited to an inspirational day of learning at Tyne Met College. There, they are able to have a hands-on experience of the different types of trade they could go into after finishing school. The children experience brick laying, engineering, electrician and plumbing work. It is inspirational to see the variety of important careers our children could have in the future!
