Welcome to Year 6

Homework for Year 6 is reading at least 3 times per week (ideally a little every night) and in addition, they may receive handwriting sheets to practise their handwriting joins.  There will also be some maths activities set to help them with their learning in school. To support with online learning, children can access: Mathletics and Times Tables Rock Stars, Spelling Shed and Reading Plus. Logins will be sent home in the first few weeks. 

  

 

Weekly spellings are provided for children each week with the expectation of short, daily practise happening at home.

Later in the year, the children will receive activities and tasks to help them prepare for their Y6 SATs and your support for this is much appreciated.

Reading: 

At Collingwood we encourage children to read at least 3 times per week (ideally a little every night). We use a reading race incentive to encourage children to read at home. This involves children reading at home and once they reach 40 reads, they earn a golden coin that they can spend at our reading book vending machine. 

Reading Books: Teachers carefully pick every child's reading books depending on their reading level. Books will be changed at teachers' discretion once they feel the child is confident and ready to move on. Children that are confident and capable readers in upper KS2 are given free choice over their reading books and exchange them once complete.

Children who are on the FreshStart programme will have their books changed in line with their progression through their modules, whilst enjoying the opportunity to select their own child chosen 'Share With An Adult' library book, which will be changed as required. 

Dates for the diary

PE: Monday and Friday (6SI Swimming*). 

*On swimming days, please ensure children bring in their swimming kit, towel and do not have earrings on. 

Homework:  Mathletics, TTRS, EdShed (spellings) and Reading Plus.

Spellings: Given out on a Monday. Spelling test on a Friday.
