Learning through play, each and every day...
A very warm welcome to Collingwood Foundation Stage! We pride ourselves on offering an enriched curriculum where the children are encouraged to be inquisitive about the world around them.
At Collingwood, we firmly believe that the Early Years are crucial in forming the secure foundations for lifelong learning. Our Nursery and Reception children are encouraged to develop as individuals, think big and look far.
Learning within Early Years is based on each child as an individual and is personalised to suit the many varied needs of the children. Adult-led activities and child-led play opportunities, both indoors and outdoors, ensure our children receive a wide and varied range of learning experiences. Activities and learning experiences are carefully planned to ensure children build knowledge across the seven areas of learning.
These are broken down into three prime areas of learning:
And four specific areas of learning:
We believe every child is unique and continuously strive to develop resilient, confident and capable learners. Focus on developing positive relationships helps our children become strong and independent. Well considered enabling environments are crucial in the development of each child alongside the strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers.

At Collingwood, we encourage children to read at least 3 times per week (ideally a little every night). We use a reading race incentive to encourage children to read at home. This involves children reading at home and once they reach 40 reads, they earn a golden coin that they can spend at our reading book vending machine.
Teachers carefully pick every child's reading books depending on their reading level. Books will be changed at teachers' discretion once they feel the child is confident and ready to move on.
Chat, play, read! Learning to talk and developing speech at home.
